Pay, Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.  Valid driver’s license and Class B CDL or the ability to obtain such within 6 months of employment.  Ability to obtain Class I Wastewater Treatment certification within 1 year of employment. 
 
Wastewater Operator I
  • Starting pay $18.88 per hour, actual pay depends on experience
  • 1 – 3 months’ experience
Wastewater Operator II
  • Starting pay $20.02 per hour, actual pay depends on experience
  • Minimum 1 year or equivalent experience required
Wastewater Operator III
  • Starting pay $23.01 per hour, actual pay depends on experience
  • Minimum 2 years or equivalent experience required

Brief Description of Duties:
Under the direct supervision of the Utilities Supervisor, the Wastewater Operator position is a non-exempt position under FLSA, which performs skilled and unskilled work. This employee is responsible for the daily maintenance and operation for assigned utility operations. This position is designated primarily to wastewater but may include some responsibilities for water.
 
  • Serve as crew member for providing assistance in the Utilities operations.
  • Repair and operate water distribution mains, ground storage and elevated water towers, wastewater piping, manholes, sanitary sewer lift stations, haul de-watered sludge, booster stations, SCADA Telemetry, and stormwater systems.
  • At direction of the Utilities Supervisor, may oversee certain utility program activity operations and tasks.
  • Perform wastewater or water tests to ensure standards are being met.
  • Responsible for water quality checks and adjustments at the Aquatic Center
  • Service and repair pumps, motors, hydrants and meters.
  • Read, install, repair water meters and appurtenances.
  • Operates and maintains department equipment and vehicles.
  • Enters and records information into database and filing systems.
  • Assist with snow removal in inclement weather.
  • Assist other City departments as assigned.
  • Follow department safety procedures and practices along with department policies and procedures.
  • May be subject to overtime & call-back
  • Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary
