Maintenance Worker I – Utilities
Under the direct supervision of the Utilities Superintendent, the Maintenance Worker position is a non-exempt position under FLSA, which performs skilled and unskilled work. This employee is responsible for the daily maintenance and operation for assigned utility operations. This position will likely be designated primarily to either water or wastewater but may include some responsibilities for both. This employee may report to the Utilities Foreman or the Utilities Superintendent as directed.
Essential Duties
Duties, responsibilities, scheduling, shift assignments and work location, may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
Education and Experience
Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A thorough knowledge of mechanics, welding, water and wastewater system maintenance, and equipment maintenance, and a working knowledge of mathematics are required. This employee must be able to operate lab equipment and perform lab tests, operate wastewater plant equipment and machinery with a high degree of efficiency and accuracy, turbidity meter, PH meter, chlorinators, backhoe, dump truck, tractor, uni-loader, diagnostic equipment, pumps, generators, and other department equipment. The ability to read and interpret laboratory results, reports, understand and anticipate problems, to follow department policies, and to interpret written and verbal instruction, blueprints, schematics, and manuals is required. This employee should possess a strong mechanical aptitude, and effective public relations, oral and written communication skills. Ability to operate a computer; Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word Document is required
Salary range is $16.42 to $22.15 for Maintenance Worker, dependent on qualifications. Position open until filled. The City of Spring Hill offers excellent, comprehensive benefits including medical, dental and vision coverage as well as paid leave and KPERS retirement.
